A few of the other guys from our snowmobile club ececutive invited me to join them for a n epic ride yesterday. Two retired resort owners from Maryland and an ex Arctic Cat factory racer joined the four of us from South Seguin Snowmoblile Club.We left home at about 9 AM and I made my way back home in a blinding snowstorm at 9:20 PM.We rode a total of 395 Km.We headed north to the French River and Pickerel Rivers where 2 new suspension bridges have been built to accommodate snowmobiles crossing these two large rivers. We headed back south to the Key River where we turned east and headed to the town of Port Loring. From there it was a sothwest journey to the village of Ardbeg (no thats not a typo).A quick refreshment and at 7:10 pm we continued southwest back towards home.It had started snowing like crazy during our Ardbeg stop.Thwe route we chose home from there was the fastest of 2 choices. We chose the much shorter and faster lake trails.Wow was it tuff to see out on the ice.We couln't see anything but white. The sled in front of you may have only been 100 feet away but it was invisible in the snow. All you could do was keep the low beams on and watch for the next ice stake.Lake crossings usually end up with sled throttles just simply being on-off switches, but last night we couldn't ride any faster than about 60 KM/HR.
I was surprised at the pace we rode at as a group for the whole day. While the rest of the group had a few blown turns for the day I struggled embarrassed in the morning having gone through 2 turns and having to get help to pull my sorry ass (not mine, but my sled's)out of the thickets.A third blown turn just after lunch caused me to decide to adjust my front springs 2 settings softer.Problem solved. Now the damn thing turned at speed instead of plowing.
All in all the day was awesome and the trails were in great shape. The snow cover was a little thin in the Britt area and we thought that the groomer there must have been a part time gemologist based on the fact that he had just been out to polish the rocks with his machine cause there sure wasn't enough snow to groom.Pics to follow.
