I've just acquired a 94 skidoo summit 470 (free!). Previous owner thought the engine had siezed after if made a horrendous racket and locked up and came to a sliding stop. Looks like something may have let go in the chaincase, because I took the belt off and it fired right up. After I moved the track back and forth a bit, whatever was jammed must have come loose and the track and everything moves fine (still need to open up the case and see if there's something loose in there).

The problem now is that the sled is VERY smokey. (doesn't smell like anti-freeze). Any suggestions on what might cause this? Previous owner said that it had been like that for a while.
Thanks.

If it's blue smoke it could be one of three things, either the oil injection pump needs adjusting, there was oil mixed in the tank or you could have worn piston rings.

Thanks. I know the gas isn't mixed, so I'll check check out the pump.

It could also be a weak ignition or improperly gapped spark plugs (maybe), where it's not getting enough fire to burn the oil and gas off properly.
