I have to say, every time I ride with the folks from Vernon Polaris, I sure get a workout, and the soreness that follows is bitter-sweet! haha
Met up with the gang at the shell in Lumby, expecting to be heading out to Nelson Mountain (finally! still havent been there yet!) but then hear that because of the good weather, we are now heading to the Pinacles. This area is Northeast of Cherryville out past Lumby, and just on the edge of the monashee range. Close enough.
I was a little apprehensive, but happy to be going some place i have never been before. Always cool.
So we drive, unload, talk about being safe because of the big slide out that just happened a couple days before further south, and then on our way.
Went a bit to far on the trail, and turned back to find the right way, and went up through the trees to get to a cool ridge with some ups and downs.
Got to a tricky spot where you go down a bit on a sidehill, then at the bottom (which wasnt level) you had to bite in to make a sidehill to get back up and out.
Again, I have to say this is probably the only time i have personally seen Sabine from the Vernon Polaris shop ever get stuck, and i was next in line. Wonderful! (grin)... I do have to say that after she got stuck and was out, there was a bit of a flatter spot which made it a bit easier for me to make the turn and climb out.
The others followed, and unfortunatly one of our group couldnt quite bite and ran out into the trees. I guess it was lucky the sled stayed there because there was quite a drop off if it went even a bit farther on.
After everyone was up and out, we proceeded into some cool bowl areas. It was pretty windy and crusty with hard set snow up that high. We climbed up a spot, then one by one dropped down a steep part. Steep enough that there was no stopping at all. All you could do was steer. I watched and was one of the last down. A bit freaky for me. The rides with this group always challenge me. (grin) Better than being bored!
Again, we all made it down and then made our way to the top of the mountain. Once there, we dropped down again into the back bowl area and to the twin lakes. Some really great bowl riding back here, and tons of space to really explore.
We rode around there for quite some time, and then made our way into the trees. We found some really great snow to play in down there for quite a while and nearly found our way back out to the spot we turned around at a the very beginning of the day. We all think there is a possible loop ride there now, no more going back out the way you came in now.
A few of us left gas cans up at the top though, so we all rode back out the way we went in.
Climbing out of the back bowl to the top presented a couple problems. I hit a rock up top, but didnt do any damage. Didnt quite go high enough on my approach, and another gal hit one right at the top and it through her off the sled, and onto another rock. Not sure of what the end result of that was, but the group thought it could have been either a badly brused or possibly broken rib. Ouch. Hope she is doing well...
(And i wish I could remember everyones names! Sorry... Maybe if someone reads this who was with us, you can remind me...)
So we grabbed the gas cans, and made our way out. By this time it was snowing pretty good. The day started off real nice, but got more snowy and cloudy as it went on. Was still real nice though overall.
Another really great, challenging ride with the Vernon Polaris group. I'm so sore right now I could hardly walk all day. hahaha Gotta go for a hot-tub now!
I added some pics right away last night, but tonight I added some new screenshots from the video i took, as well as captured and added some clips from the video as well.
Enjoy!
